I’ve long been accustomed to traditional weddings, both as a vendor and a guest. It’s a grand event with dozens (sometimes hundreds!) of your closest friends and family. It’s a significant milestone in a couple’s life meant to cement the bond they’ve spent time forming together.
But how many of us have attended a vow renewal?
I had a chance to capture one of the most intimate events yet in the vow renewal of Laura and Evens Morival. With the help of their friend Ivy, an unassuming white gazebo in Fred Ball Park right by Bayshore Boulevard was transformed into a shrine of the relationship Laura and Evens had built together. They had photos from each of the past four years of their marriage and details that underscored their faith.
Overall, the ceremony lasted just over half an hour (their vows were hall of fame great, with some rhyming and Kobe Bryant references sprinkled in) and afterwards the couple had a beautiful “first” dance under the gazebo followed by sunset portraits.
The intimacy of the moment really magnified the love the two had for each other. The weather was perfect, the trees were dancing in the wind and the sun’s rays were just right.
And as a result, this ended up being one of my favorite moments to capture in 2021.
